Automatic extraction and delivery of network plans and geodata

IT at the service of the construction industry

The digitization of underground networks and, more generally, of the professions over the last 20 years, has led to a shift in orders from paper plans to digital format. With the appearance of Internet platforms such as plans-reseaux.ch and viageo.ch, we are witnessing a democratization of these orders, which often respond to a legal obligation to know the occupation of the underground prior to construction. This has resulted in a steady increase in the number of orders for network plans.

The City of Pully, aware of these issues, participated and contributed to the open source development project of an IT tool to facilitate the extraction and delivery of geodata. Supported and financed by a community of public and private actors, this application saw its first version released in 2018. As of August 1, 2021, all geodata and network maps distributed by the City of Pully now use this automatic extractor.

For a network plan order in 2018, the human intervention time was around 45 minutes, including a significant number of repetitive manipulations with no real additional value. Today, thanks to Extract, this intervention time is between 5 and 10 minutes and the time is mainly devoted to qualitative aspects such as validation or improvement of the product plan.

By automating the process of extraction and delivery of network plans and geodata, we :

  • Decrease the order processing time
  • Increase the delivered data quality
  • Increase customer satisfaction
